Audi showcases new A6 facelift before 2014 Paris Motor Show

first_imgNew Audi A6German luxury car maker Audi has revealed a facelifted A6 that will be showcased at the upcoming 2014 Paris Motor Show. Alongside the current A6 line-up will be two fuel efficient “Ultra” models for global markets. These new models will feature subtle aerodynamic tweaks and a series of weight saving initiativesWhat is newEnginesMajor changes in the new A6 have been made with respect to engines. Now a range of new or updated four, six and eight-cylinder engines, cleaner and more frugal, are on offer. Based on the current 1.8-litre four-cylinder direct injection petrol A6 1.8 TFSI and 2.0-litre four-cylinder common rail diesel A6 2.0 TDI, new “Ultra” A6 models deliver fuel consumption and emissions in combination with an optional 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.At a higher range, Audi has also tweaked the 3.0-litre V6 common rail diesel in the A6 3.0 TDI. In single turbocharged form, it now delivers 215 bhp or 268 bhp of power.A recently introduced twin-turbocharged derivative of the engine has also been upgraded to belt  315bhp of power in standard form or 341bhp in a couple of special-edition models. These variants, called as A6 3.0 TDI competition and A6 Avant 3.0 TDI competition, were created to celebrate 25 years of TDI technology.While the new A6 3.0 TDI competition comes with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox, all other engine variants have either a standard 6-speed manual or optional 7-speed Dual clutch Gearbox. In the A6 models power above 268bhp, Audi’s revolutionary Quattro four-wheel drive can be supplemented with a sport differential to help traction.  advertisementTechnologyThe two fuel efficient “Ultra” models come with subtle aerodynamic tweaks and a series of weight saving initiatives, which includes springs made of glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) on the diesel variant, which help to reduce weight by a claimed 4.4kg.ExteriorsStylistic tweaks have been made to the car’s single frame grille, headlamps, bumpers, side sills and tailpipes. The luxury sedan also gets LED headlamps as standard, apart from the existing LED daytime running lights. Dynamic indicators with a sweeping function in the direction of the turn are also standard at the rear, though optional for the front light units.InteriorsAudi A6 interiorsInside, the A6 gets the latest generation of Audi’s modular infotainment system.
