Kambli has said that picking players specific to formats will help the team preserve players and increase the reserve pool.Sourav Ganguly had taken to Twitter on Wednesday to express his disappointment at India’s team selection for their tour of West Indies, starting August 3. Ganguly said that India need to look at picking more players for all three formats in order to give them a consistent run at the international level.Vinod Kambli, taking to social media, said he believes that India will benefit by picking format-specific players.”I believe in horses for courses. We need to choose the best players for the format & play them. It will help #TeamIndia preserve players & with the big pool of players at our disposal, the mgmt can then utilize players for bigger series. England & Australia are prime examples,” Vinod Kambli wrote on Twitter. The senior selection committee led by MSK Prasad met in Mumbai on Sunday to announce the India squads for the West Indies tour wherein Virat Kohli’s men will play 3 ODIs, as many T20Is and 2 Tests. While the likes of Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer and Khaleel Ahmed returned to the limited-overs squads, only captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul are part of all the 3 squads. Jasprit Bumrah, who has been picked for the 2 Tests, has been rested from ODIs and T20Is.advertisementMeanwhile, Sourav Ganguly had also expressed surprise at the absence of Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane in the ODI squads. Shubman Gill was picked as replacement for KL Rahul when the latter was suspended during India’s tour of New Zealand earlier this year. Gill has top-scored for India A in the unofficial ODI series, scoring 218 runs, including 3 half-centuries vs West Indies A.”There are many in the squad who can play all formats ..surprised not to see shubman gill ..Rahane in the one day squad..(sic),” Sourav Ganguly had written on Twitter. The former captain added: “Time has come for Indian selectors to pick same players in all formats of the game for rhythm and confidence.. too few are playing in all formats ..great teams had consistent players’s not about making all happy but picking the best for the country and be consistent.”Also Read | Lieutenant Colonel MS Dhoni deployed in Kashmir Valley as part of Victor ForceAlso Read | England collapse against Ireland ’embarrassing’, says Michael VaughanAlso See:last_img read more
