first_imgRed Hughs GAA News: Senior MenThe lads kicked off their season with an away trip to Burt on Sunday. The game was played in very difficult conditions with strong winds and heavy showers to contend with.The lads got off to a good start and lead by 2 points to no score after 10 minutes. The home side then got on the scoreboard to reduce the gap to a single point.The Reds added another point before the Burt lads scored the only goal of the game to put them two in front.The lads rallied and finished the half strong scoring two unanswered points to go in at the break one point up. 0-5 to 1-1 With the Burt lads now playing with the strong wind on their backs for the second half. They used the wind to their full advantage and scored 2 point to take the lead. The Red Hugh’s lads had a really tough task and were finding shooting into the strong wind very difficult and registered a number of wides. Burt tagged on another three points before Calvin Bradley got the Reds only point of the second half and the last score of the game. The final score was Red Hughs 0-6 Burt 1-6ReservesThe reserves also played Burt in their first game of their season. Low on numbers they due to work commitments etc the lads started the game well and were taking the game to the Burt lads with the score at 2 points each after 10 minutes. Two bad and very costly defensive errors seen the Burt men scoring 2 goals to give them a real boost. But the lads to their credit never gave up and kept battling away. The home side played with the strong wind in the first half and took full advantage of it and put up a score of 2-10 to Red Hughs 0-2 at the interval.With a mountain to climb in the second half the Red Hughs boys chipped away at the Burt lead and out scored the home side 1-5 to 1-0 in the second half. Unfortunately the gap proved too big to overcome before the final whistle. The lads can be happy with their second half performance and take some positives from it. The final score was Red Hughs 1-7 Burt 3-10The lads now face another away trip this weekend this time to Downings. Reserves throw in at 4.00pm and seniors throw in at 5.30pm Minor BoysThe minor lads host Glenfin this Tuesday evening at Pairc Aodh Rua with a 6.30 throw in. Come out and cheer the lads on.Under 16 BoysThe lads training continues on Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm. Their next game is away to Letterkenny Gaels this Friday the throw in 12 noon. Under 14 BoysTraining continues for the boys on Fridays from 7-8pmUnder 12 & u-14 Girls​Training for the girls has now changed to a Wednesday from 6.15 to 7.15pmSaturday Morning CoachingRed Hughs underage training on Saturday mornings from 11am to12noon. This will be for all boys and girls from u6s up to u10s and u12 boys. This year we will be collecting €2 per child and no more than €5 per family for the use of the facilities to train. This money will go straight back into the underage training funds.Any parent/guardian that may be willing to help out on Saturday mornings please don’t hesitate to contact any of the coaches on the morning of the training.​Ceile DancingThe Ceile dancing continues every Tuesday at 8pm in the club house . Well done to coach Sabrina White players Nicola Callaghan,Zara Gibson,Aimee Callaghan and Maddison White who got herself on the score sheet with a few points.
