Permission granted for major development at Letterkenny hotel

first_imgA MAJOR extension will see the addition of 61 new bedrooms added to a Letterkenny hotel,An Bord Pleanala has granted permission for the development at McGettigan’s Hotel at Main Street, Letterkenny. The application, lodged in the name of Denis McGettigan, outlines the plans for the demolition and reconfiguration of building elements that previously formed part of the former Milan nightclub area of the hotel. A new four-story side extension, with 35 bedrooms, is to be constructed while a new fifth floor, over the existing bedroom block, will provide an additional 26 bedrooms. A spa facility will be provided at fourth-floor level.Residents lodged an appeal against the decision of Donegal County Council to grant conditional planning permission for the redevelopment. However, An Bord Pleanala determined that the development ‘would not adversely impact on the character or setting of the town centre, would be acceptable in terms of visual amenity, would not seriously injure the amenities of the area or of property in the vicinity and would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety’. A number of conditions have been attached to the permission.Works will only be carried out from 8am-7pm on Monday-Fridays, 8am-2pm on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays. Public lighting will be provided, which will include lighting along Speer’s Lane. The developer is to lodge with the planning authority a cash deposit, a bond of an insurance company, or other security to secure the provision and satisfactory completion of roads, footpaths, watermains, drains, open space and other services required in connection with the development.Permission granted for major development at Letterkenny hotel was last modified: November 21st, 2019 by Chris McNultyShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:An Bord PleanalaletterkennyMcGettigan’s Hotellast_img read more

Unique crafts at Zasekhaya

first_img17 March 2008Unique South African crafts are on sale at the monthly Zasekhaya Market in Newtown, Johannesburg. And we’re not talking carved hippos and giraffes – Zasekhaya items are one-of-a-kind, from funky fashion to mosaic mirrors and handmade paper.Zasekhaya is a non-profit organisation that focuses on training people who are unemployed to sell their handmade crafts. The main objective of the market is to provide a platform for local, talented students and crafters to showcase and sell their work. It is also an opportunity for new artists to network.According to Zasekhaya Market’s website, the market “was born out of a realisation that creative skills training alone is not enough to make a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged youth and other South Africans attempting to make a living from the artistic sector.“The market offers space for mentoring, product development, business experience, interaction with fellow crafters/artists and interaction with consumers.”Zasekhaya specialises in a variety of South African craft products, ranging from visual arts, photography and prints to crafts, fashion, decor and designer ware. And the market is truly South African – only locally made products are sold.Among its stallholders are Abegail Mfokazi, who designs and makes handbags from recycled cans; Andy Krick from Imbali, who specialises in quilts; Steven Holt from the craft centre at the Trevor Huddleston Memorial Centre in Sophiatown; and Susan Haycock from Intuthuko Embroiderers.According to the organisers, the market has grown substantially since it was started in 2004. Eunice Mothetho-rooi, the operations manager, says it is attracting increasing numbers of international and local tourists.A children’s entertainment section – featuring creative workshops, jumping castles and jugglers – caters for those parents who need somewhere safe and fun to leave their kids while they do their browsing and shopping in peace. There is also a coffee shop and several food stalls selling a variety of tasty items. Music and entertainers add to the atmosphere.Zasekhaya Market takes place from 10am to 4pm on the last Saturday of every month at the Bus Factory in President Street, Newtown. Secure parking is available at the front and back of the Bus Factory. For more information, and to inquire about renting stalls, phone Eunice Mothetho-rooi on 011 833 3329.Source: City of Johannesburglast_img read more

Derrick Rose signs with Minnesota, reunites with Thibodeau

He’s joining a Timberwolves team bidding for its first postseason trip since 2004, and entered play Thursday holding the sixth seed in a very close Western Conference race — where four games separate the eight teams from third place to 10th.He said he isn’t worried about role, and said he can fit in alongside fellow Wolves point guards Jeff Teague and Tyus Jones.“I think I can play with anybody, to tell you the truth,” Rose said. “I know the game. I’m not a selfish player. I’m not here for stats or anything like that. I just want to win and help this team and franchise win.”Rose averaged 9.8 points with the Cavaliers this season. Captaincy will bring the best out of Glenn Maxwell, says Ricky Ponting

first_imgFormer Australia captain Ricky Ponting said he was surprised to see Glenn Maxwell being made the captain of the Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab for the ongoing 10th edition of the league. (More IPL News)Kings XI Punjab appointed Australian all-rounder Maxwell as the captain of the side ahead of South African Hashim Amla and England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan after finishing last in the previous season.Maxwell has led KXIP to a positive start in IPL 10 with two wins in as many matches.Maxwell contributed in both the victories with unbeaten scores of 44 and 43, respectively, powering his team home in the two run chases.  Ponting believes captaincy will bring the best out of Maxwell. (IPL 2017’s first controversy: Kieron Pollard in Twitter outburst against Sanjay Manjrekar)”I was a little bit surprised (they made him captain) but I’m actually really excited for him to get that opportunity,” Ponting was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.”I actually think it’ll bring the best out of him. His last couple of years of IPL cricket haven’t been as good as the years prior, but to get that bit more of responsibility could be just what he needs.Maxwell recently scored his maiden Test ton for Australia in the third Test against India in Ranchi. (IPL 2017: Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene empathises with umpires after howler against Rohit Sharma)”We’ve just seen him have a breakthrough Test innings a couple of weeks ago, which I think delighted all of Australia. Everyone has been waiting for that breakout performance and there it was.advertisement”This could just be the start. It could be the beginning of a very, very good back half of Glenn Maxwell’s life. So I wish him all the best.”However, the former Mumbai Indians coach said the biggest challenge for Maxwell will be to manage off-field pressures rather than on it.  Maxwell has no previous experience of captaining a senior side and it was the first time that the 28-year-old will lead a side since he captained his Melbourne club Fitzroy-Doncaster more than three years ago. (Exclusive: Muttiah Muralitharan slams Sanjay Manjrekar’s comments on Kieron Pollard)”The moments I’ve spent with him and you talk about the game with him, I think he understands the game particularly well. And the good thing is he’s got a few Aussie boys (Kings XI teammates Marcus Stoinis and Shaun Marsh) around him as well that’ll make that job a little bit easier. He’s familiar with the coaches and the owners as well, which is really important in the IPL.”They’re the kind of things you have to manage as a captain or a coach of an IPL team. There’s so many external things to manage.”And that’s probably going to be the most difficult thing for Maxi; the on field stuff will be fine, the other pressures that come with it will be a bigger challenge,” he said.last_img read more
